Introduction
For decades, the small town of Stepantsminda in northern Georgia was exclusively a destination for the intrepid traveler; someone who was looking for adventure off the beaten path but undaunted by the lack of modern accommodations. But that all changed with Rooms Hotel Kazbegi, a beautifully renovated hotel that transformed the region into an open destination for both Georgian and international travelers alike.
Context
Its stunning location, nestled within the Caucasian highlands makes it an outdoorsman’s dream. With mountains, streams, and fresh alpine air, it provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities. Anything from mountaineering and horseback riding to quad biking and paragliding can be found here. Most of all, that doesn’t even include the heli-skiing that takes places here every winter because its one of the best destinations in the world to do it.
Design
The design of the hotel served three purposes. The first was to remain authentic to its location, become a reflection of modern-day Georgia, and celebrate all of its customs and traditions.
The composition of color, textures, artwork, furnishings, music and light results in a unique signature design concept. Certain details, such as the hand-woven rugs and locally sourced oak have been incorporated into the design. – Rooms Hotels
The use of natural materials in Rooms Hotel Kazbegi helps to strengthen the connection between inside and out, and details that accentuate this relationship can be found throughout.
The use of wooden floorboards and natural materials throughout the ground-floor guest areas further blurs the line between inside and out. The spirit of Georgian hospitality is alive in our grand communal lobby lounge and sun terrace, which extends across the entire length of the hotel and provides the perfect vantage point from which to take in the rugged surroundings. – Rooms Hotels
The amenities are equally impressive as well.
Rooms Hotel Kazbegi’s subterranean wellness area takes on an almost Alpine feel with rustic timber floorboards and vintage travel posters extolling the joys of skiing, while brick walls and distressed lanterns add an industrial edge. – Room Hotels
