Situation
The following description is courtesy of the architects. Located at the end of a residential area, the multipurpose room is lined to the North by a future park and old pines parasol, to the East and South by courtyards
of tennis. The building, placed on its base rises entirely in wood, in Aleppo pine, gray meadow on the facade.
The building is designed to be able to open widely, like a courtyard which would provide shelter from bad weather or the sun to enjoy the outdoors. First project in the Aleppo pine sector, timber, carried by the municipalities forestry, fibois paca, the Town Hall, the project reasons with its environment, then naturally finding its place in the site.
The project is located in the municipality of Coudoux, near the A8 motorway. It is accessible to vehicles from the stadium alley. Located southwest of the town of Coudoux, the tennis club is at neighborhood of suburban housing. The planned building is located in the cadastral zone AI and on plot no. 921. The land is located in UP urban area of the PLU.
The project consists of the renovation of the club house existing on the site as well as its extension into a multipurpose room for the town of Coudoux and the tennis club. The initial state of the land presents a soil
relatively flat and located in the South of a water retention basin.
The land dedicated to the construction of the new multipurpose room is currently empty. The project plot
is shared by the tennis club, a city stadium, and a BMX field.
Composition of the Project
The extension is developed on one level, to the east of the existing building, in alignment strict along the north facade. The construction is based on the principle four studs located at the ends of a rectangular plan, supporting a roof set back from these. In the South, the withdrawal compared at tennis lessons frees up a directly accessible terrace area from the room.
The positioning of the building in the site establishes a dialogue between the basin retention area with trees to the North and the terrace main to the South.
The base on which the extension develops is surrounded by a low stone wall massive. This base places the floor of the building 40 cm above ground level, in order to create the foundation of the project.
The project consists of two parts:
- the multipurpose room, free of everything supporting point in its central space thanks to a roof made up of a glued laminated wood box structure Aleppo pine. This room opens completely on its largest sides,
North and South, with joinery folding sliding doors. - the blocks which support the roof, completely covered on the outside like inside. They are dedicated to services
Sun protection is provided by awnings composed of a structure metal supporting blades of slatted Aleppo pine wood. They are located at the level of the 4 terraces formed by the removal of the studs in relation to the roofing.
The project proposes minimal intervention on the existing building. Removal of all partitions and false ceilings not necessary for enjoy generous spaces, insulation exterior walls and repair of paintings. The heterogeneous facade, having underwent numerous interventions over the course of years old is completely repainted in green, a green in resonance with the color present on site: the thorns of pine trees, tennis lessons…
The project as a whole, (existing and extension) then finds all its place in the site, by its location, creating free zones, its materiality and its openings, linking the different spaces.
Matter
The project is simple, 4 supports supporting a recessed roof. This simplicity values the site, but also the materiality of the project. In fact, the entire project is built in Aleppo pine, structure from MOBs to the framework in glued laminate, up to the cladding and furniture.
It has been years since the local Aleppo pine no longer used in construction whereas previously, it was largely employee. The Aleppo pine industry as lumber, Aleppo pine from forests local and transformed into Paca is relaunched. The multipurpose room project is part.
The walls are wooden framed, the insulation in wood wool, the framework is made on a box floor principle,
in glued lamella, the cladding is jointed covering, in Aleppo pine, treated pre-grayed autoclave. The box bases are made of Aleppo pine battens allowing the integration of lighting fixtures and acoustically treat the room. Interior furniture, counter and tablets are also built in Aleppo pine.
To protect the wood from the ground, the project stands on a base, concrete base board. This base is expanding, coming integrate access ramps and terraces, made of deactivated concrete, surrounded
by a low stone wall from Vers Pont du Gard. This wall rises coming form a totem, signage support.
The height of the base is 40 cm, it allows the seat to enjoy the matches of tennis.
The surrounding soils are homogenized in gravel to connect the different altimeters of the site. The permeability of the gravel allows natural infiltration of water.
The existing building is entirely repainted green, green of pine thorns, green tennis courts, so as to
subtly integrate into the landscape and create a strong unity.
By mixing all these materials, the project reveals its own identity, referring to its context. Concrete treats the relationship to the ground, while keeping the wood, 4 pre-grayed wooden blocks on their 4 sides carry a frame in glued laminated, covered. The joinery folding sliding wood opens fully in the North and the South, removing the limits of inside/outside.
