The proposal Forêt from the Spanish studio led by Marta Urtasun and Pedro Rica, that won the international contest Concéntrico, will be built within the art biennial La Forêt Monumentalein Rouen (France).
August 2019 – Jury members from the Concéntrico festival, working in collaboration with LaForêt Monumentale, chose the project Forêt, developed by mecanismo, as the best of the 60 presented in the contest. The proposal from the Spanish studio has as a purpose to integrate the forest inside the city and create awareness of the actual and radical detachment between natural and artificial. The installation will be built throughout September in Saint-Sever district in Rouen, Normandy, within the festival La Forêt Monumentale, which opening is on September the 20th.

For the design of the integrated forest inside the city, mecanismo started from the human [scale]; the 30 laminated pine tree panels and its strict geometry to create a forest by its own naturalization and geometric adaptability. The formal naturalization from the panels and its manipulation to the arboreal gave place to an organic and complex space, based nevertheless in simple geometric rules.
Pedro Rica explains “we have got used to the no coexistence between natural and artificial. Nature and urban design confront often separated by unbreakable limits. However, we believe that the city and forest are compatible and share organizational qualities that make them complementary to each other.”
Urtasun adds “the ecosystem that we are going to implant in front of Saint-Sever church from Rouen, taking advantage of the urban void, has the capacity to atomize and expand throughout the city.”
Organized by the Métropole Rouen Normandie and the NFB, La Forêt Monumentale is conceived as an art biennial focused on the integration of art and forest (due to its great extension in the region) promoting the staging of the surrounding nature. Also, the exposition’s strong character is influenced by the strong commitment from Rouen city against global warming.

The main exposition will locate itself along a four-kilometre route in the Green Forest, that will hold thirteen works from different international artists, which will allow visitors to discover the surroundings at the same time as they discover art.

Furthermore, the collaboration between La Forêt Monumentale and Concéntrico will generate the integration of the forest and the urban area by the hand of mecanismo and his Forêt located in front of Saint-Sever church, this way all of the pedestrians will be able to interact with it (even going through it) from September the 20th 2019
