Description provided by Space Saga Architects
How will we live in Space?
SAGA is a new, but extremely ambitious studio which is creating harmonious homes in the most hostile of all places. Space. We use the spectacular challenges space throws at us as creative opportunities. For example, we invented a method for turning the global dust storms of Mars into an opportunity for power generation. In a field that until this point only has focused on the basic needs for survival, we approach space-exploration from a human perspective, where mental well-being and social sustainability is part of the life-support equation.
So how do we do it?
One of our fundamental values as architects is to always start from scratch and use extreme associative thinking. This way we uncover fundamental truths about architecture and discover surprising solutions. We are not afraid to take it to the next step. Showing that space exploration doesn’t have to be about merely surviving, but thriving.
The Circadian Lunar Home
The Circadian Lunar Home is our most recent project that has just won the international Moon Village Pitch Competition. Here is our idea:
When you look at all the proposals for space habitats you see that they all have the same predictable shapes: Domes, Spheres and if they’re really creative. A donut. It seemed too basic. Can a human really thrive in a human fish-bowl? So, we started thinking about new ways of making closed inflatables. After much trial and error, we found a unique form.
