+Energy Houses
Architect: DINELLJOHANSSON
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Type: Housing
Year: 2025
Photographs: Mikael Olsson
The following description is courtesy of the architects. The +Energy Houses are the result of a winning proposal in a land allocation competition together with Stockholmshem, for two residential buildings in Norra Djurgårdsstaden. The purpose of the site was to create plus-energy houses with smart energy solutions and functional architecture. DinellJohansson served as architects through all stages – from the competition proposal to building permits, construction documentation, construction follow-up, and final completion.

The general ambition that “it should be easy to do the right thing” has been a guiding principle in the design. Living in a plus-energy house should not only generate thermal or electrical energy but also life energy for the residents. It should be easy to understand and enjoyable to shift one’s lifestyle towards greater environmental awareness and understanding of cycles and energy use.

Space-efficient apartments were a goal in the effort to maximize the effect of internal heat loads. This resulted in well-utilized four-, three-, and two-room apartments. The actively heated living area has been minimized but complemented by an unheated living zone in the form of glazed balconies along the long façades. This creates a compact, well-functioning home in the winter that expands significantly in the summer with areas naturally warmed by the sun.

The roof ridge of the buildings is rotated to provide a roof surface facing directly south, optimized for the performance of the solar panels covering it. In total, 717 square meters of surface area have been fitted with solar panels on the buildings. All technical installations are optimized for heat recovery from air and domestic hot water.
